Classic Chicken Club Sandwiches are not just regular sandwiches. Layers of deli chicken slices, turkey bacon, or the must-have American cheese make this one the most iconic sandwich on any menu. I guarantee that you will add this version of mine to your regular lunch menu from now on.
If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a must-try! Super easy to make, and ready just in 10 minutes. Its fresh ingredients will make this sandwich more flavorful and give it a high-end look. Probably you say, “It’s just a sandwich!”, but believe me… This sandwich will be a game changer around your whole sandwich career.
I love to enjoy this sandwich with Roasted Potatoes, Fried Plantains (Tostones), or even with this easy homemade Coleslaw Salad.
You’ll find some versions of the club sandwich in any restaurant, diner, or deli, wherever you go. It’s a classic on the menus. Why not? People love it because never disappoints. Guaranteed that it will satisfy even the hungriest of eaters.
Club Sandwich vs. Regular Sandwich
While a regular sandwich only has 2 slices of bread, club sandwiches are made with 3 slices of bread with different fillings between them. This unique clubhouse sandwich usually contains chicken deli slices, cooked bacon, and American cheese with layered mayonnaise on the top of the bread. The fresh ingredients are lettuce and tomatoes which makes it more special.
It is often cut into quarters or halves and held together by cocktail sticks. These good-looking Chicken Club Sandwiches will always make our day for the best.
Oh, are you in the Sandwich – Club like some of us? These are some of my favorite ones and I truly can recommend: the Vegetarian Club Sandwich, or also the Turkey Club Sandwich is a good choice.
Club Sandwich with Chicken
Our Chicken Club Sandwich is versatile, which means you can make the sandwich for your preference. The good thing is that they don’t require a lot of ingredients, so use good ones – your favorite ones.
White Bread vs. Wheat Bread
I prefer to use fresh white sandwich bread for this one. But, as I mentioned above our sandwich is versatile, and you can use also wheat sandwich bread. Homemade sourdough bread is also a good choice. There is not a single specification for that. It is recommended to toast the bread though. It will make a difference, believe me.
No ham in the sandwich.
As you can see, my version of the sandwich doesn’t contain ham. While is a classic ingredient for the club sandwiches in usual, I changed it to chicken deli because I don’t eat pork. The same happens with the bacon… I used turkey bacon instead of the regular bacon made of pork.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t change it for your preference. Go ahead, and change it! As a Chicken Club Sandwich, I like it simple yet flavorful. I desire to create something everybody loves. Period.
Baked Option.
The baked variation of the club sandwich is the club sliders. They might have the same ingredients – except the bread because they use Hawaiian rolls – but the process is totally different. It’s a little longer to make and makes more extra steps that the Club Sandwich doesn’t require. Here is one, that I recommend making: Chicken Bacon Ranch Sliders.
Add-ins
This recipe is truly versatile. You can change things up by adding in other sandwich ingredients you like, or take out what you don’t like. You can add roasted chicken, boiled eggs, ham, roasted turkey, salmon, roasted beef or pastrami. Also, different veggies can be used, like avocado, sliced onions or even pickles. It’s really just about your own rules!

- Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese Sandwich (the best crunchy, and crispy grilled cheese)
Ingredients you’ll need
This chicken club sandwich has been around for a long time, and its flexibility lets us use in total 7 fresh staple ingredients. Feel free to substitute and add as your heart desires.
- White Sandwich Bread – Sourdough bread or wheat sandwich bread is also a good substitute.
- Deli Chicken Breast – You definitely can use rotisserie chicken breast for this sandwich. When I have leftovers, I’m surely using them instead of deli slices.
- Turkey Bacon – I love turkey bacon! It gives the crunchiness to this sandwich.
- American cheese – I used American, but you can use any yellow cheese you like.
- Mayonnaise – In my opinion, mayonnaise it’s a staple ingredient for club sandwiches.
- Lettuce – love to use a fresh green lettuce leaf
- Tomatoes – For sandwiches I like to use those hard ones that are easy to cut with any knife.
The rule of the club sandwich is that the bread has to be toasted. I had eaten club sandwiches before with bread that wasn’t toasted, and it was delicious. So, if you can’t make the toast for some reason, just continue with the next step. It’s not a rule breaker. Don’t forget, you make the rules in your house!

Common Questions
Should a club sandwich be hot or cold?
The classic club sandwich is assembled straight after the bacon has been cooked and the bread has toasted. So, it’s pretty much served hot right after it has been made.
Can you make club sandwiches the night before?
Yes, you can. But originally, it’s the best to serve when it’s still hot and fresh. When you host a party, and you have to make a large amount, these club sandwiches are great too, because you can make them a day before the event. They are crowd-pleasers and inexpensive. Don’t make them more than 48 hours ahead for the best flavor.
How long can a club sandwich sit out unrefrigerated?
The answer is 4 – 5 hours. This is a common question for those who have to go to school or work and don’t have a refrigerator where to put the sandwich. You can make it the night before, leave it in the fridge in a container (or sandwich box) until morning, and then take it with you. Or you can make it in the morning.
