This delicious treat is made in the microwave and it is ready just in 7 minutes total, including preparation. This recipe is eggless but contains my favorite go-to sweet – dark chocolate. Melted dark chocolate and dark chocolate chips mixed together in one dough. That is literally heaven for chocolate lovers like myself.

When my sweet tooth comes out and would love to have a treat right away, this is my first choice. Late-night sweets or if guests are visiting and you need to make something that they will feel warmly welcomed, this dessert is also the perfect choice.

My favorite late-night obsession dessert is definitely the Oatmeal Cookie Bars or I also love the Kylie Jenner Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe. But nothing compares to the Hot Chocolate Mug Cake, which is ready just in 1 to 2 minutes in the microwave.

The good thing is that it can be made for just one person to multiple people. You just have to double or triple the ingredients. But one thing is for sure, it will never disappoint even if the King from England would come to visit. I’m telling you.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Needs max. 2 minutes in the microwave
  • Super easy and quick to make
  • Kid’s friendly
  • Perfect for chocolate lovers
  • The best choice for a last-minute treat

Ingredients

This recipe contains melted dark chocolate which I use to have a fudgier and richer-in-flavor mug cake. People use alternatively cocoa powder, but in this case, I like to add Chocolate chips at least, for a more chocolaty cake.

You can use milk chocolate, sweet chocolate, or your favorite really. I like dark chocolate because they just have the perfect sweetness for my taste. I don’t like too sweet treats.

  • all-purpose flour
  • sugar
  • melted dark chocolate
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • milk
  • vegetable oil
  • vanilla extract
  • dark chocolate chips

This is a one-person recipe, so watch out and don’t overdo it with ingredients because you’ll not go to get the perfect texture or it will flow out like a volcano. If you know what I mean.

How to Make the Hot Chocolate Mug Cake

  1. In the mug, place your dry ingredients and combine them with a spoon until well blended.
  2. Add your liquid ingredients ( with the melted chocolate) to your dry ingredients and combine them again to obtain a beautifully smooth mixture.
  3. Then cook in the microwave for about 1 to 2 minutes until you get the delicious chocolate mug cake.
  4. Serve immediately or after cooling down. For the topping, you can add Vanilla Ice Cream but is optional.

In this recipe, the only necessary equipment is one mug.

What is the most popular mug? When we talk about mugs for recipes, we talk about the ceramic mugs. Ceramic mugs are practical, durable, and perform well for cooking, making them top-rated mugs. And on top of that they are just beautiful.

Why are mug cakes popular?

The answer is simple. Because it’s ready in 2 minutes. That’s it. When you are craving something sweet you can make it in minutes and there you have a delicious one-serving cake, just for yourself. You don’t need to take out all your kitchen equipment and make a cake for hours when you can have it just in minutes.

What cake flavor do most people like?

Chocolate. 100%. That’s why I made the most chocolaty fudgy mug cake and now you can make it too. Vanilla Mug Cake came after chocolate. Then the third place is Strawberry.

Why do my mug cakes always fail?

Mug Cakes usually can be dependent on a lot of different little details.

  • a few seconds can make a big difference. So, be careful don’t undercook or overcook the cake.
  • if you have a rubbery cake, the reason is that you overcooked and mixed too much baking soda or flour in the batter
  • Over-mixing the batter
  • Not measuring the dry ingredients correctly
  • Making sure you don’t use expired ingredients.

How do you keep a cake from being rubbery in a mug?

This is an important tip that helps big time for your perfect Hot Chocolate Mug Cake result:

Add a tablespoon of water on top. Why is this important? It will prevent the top of your cake from becoming rubbery, dry, and overbaking.

Can we keep the mug cake in the fridge?

They are best served immediately, but if you decide to leave some for later, cover it tightly and store it in the fridge for a few days.

But…my recommendation is NOT to leave this poor mug cake for a few days in fridge. The texture will change and the reheated version is just not the same experience. I know from experience.
